‘Allure‘ is a process-driven film, where filmmakers and performers (actors and non-actors) work together through a series of improvisations, character building, and discussions to flesh out the story and protagonists. The camera follows the characters, instead of the characters playing/posing for the camera. All dialogue is improvised, as the scene is worked through.
Inspired by true stories, ‘Allure‘ focuses on five women in NYC, who have come from different countries and settings. Each one struggles to overcome her personal conflict, set against the backdrop of greater political struggles and the global Occupy Movements. These separate, but intersecting multi-ethnic storylines touch and inform each other, and create a larger narrative, about gender, emigration, power, class, and personal politics.
‘Allure‘ is an experiment in SITUATIONIST CINEMA. As opposed to the empty and meaningless multi-million dollar industry movies, ‘Allure‘ is a rendition of real, intersecting multi-ethnic stories in present New York City, centered around five women, and mirrored against the upheaval of economic and political unrest. The film experiments with form and content, reflecting the cinema of the 60’s in the digital world.
Crudely and pretentiously put, in hollywood’s pitch-language, it’s early Godard meets a 21st century digital anarchist cinema; more accurately put, it is an artistic rendition of intersecting multi-ethnic stories in present New York City, centered around women, and mirrored against the upheaval of economic and political unrest, the Occupy World Movement.

* The Situationist International (SI) was an internationalist European revolutionary group with very restricted membership founded in 1957, and which reached its peak of influence in the general strike of May 1968 in France… they advocated experiences of life alternative to those admitted by advanced capitalism, for the fulfillment of human desires. For this purpose they suggested and experimented with the “construction of situations,” namely the setting up of environments favorable for the fulfillment of such desires…. – Wikipedia
