Stylistically Choreographed ‘TRASH DANCE’ Opens at reRun Theater – April 26, 2013

Sometimes inspiration can be found in the most unexpected places. Choreographer Allison Orr finds beauty and grace in garbage trucks, and in the unseen men and women who pick up our trash. Filmmaker Andrew Garrison follows Orr as she joins sanitation workers in Austin, Texas, on their daily routes to listen, learn, and ultimately to convince them to collaborate in an extraordinary spectacle. On an abandoned airport runway, two dozen trash collectors and their trucks deliver a stunning, emotional performance—for one night only—before an audience of thousands, who have come to see how in the world a garbage truck can “dance.”

For the past year, ‘TRASH DANCE’ has wowed festival audiences from Lincoln Center to Warsaw, winning numerous awards, including Special Jury Recognition at SXSW, and Audience Awards for Best Documentary at SilverDocs, Full Frame, Sedona and Woods Hole. Described as “Inspired and inspiring…Not to be Missed!” by Paste Magazine and “Unbelievable, incredibly beautiful and moving” by Blackbook. Featured in The New York Times and USA Today, this “unexpectedly moving” and “joyful, exuberant tale” leaves audiences asking themselves, “Am I really crying at a movie about garbage?
