Fusion, the television and digital media company serving a young, diverse millennial audience, has acquired the exclusive U.S. television rights to TRUE SON following its premiere at the 2014 Tribeca Film Festival. The documentary will premiere November 18 at 9:00 p.m., ET on Fusion and will also be featured at Fusion’s RiseUp summit in Washington, DC on November 19. TRUE SON has an exclusive theatrical release beginning October 31 in New York City and November 7 in Los Angeles.
TRUE SON follows 22-year-old Stanford graduate Michael Tubbs and his campaign to win a seat on Stockton, CA City Council during a year of record homicides and impending bankruptcy. Born to a teenage mother and incarcerated father, Michael returns to his hometown to rally young people to join his movement to Reinvent Stockton. TRUE SON forecasts both the plight of struggling American cities, and the potential of youth to re-energize them through civic engagement, commitment, and hard work.
Along with the film, the producers have launched the College App Toolkit, a free series of eight multimedia YouTube videos and infographics meant to guide youth through the college application process. The full toolkit can be accessed here.
