To celebrate Filmmaker Magazine‘s “25 New Faces of Independent Film” for 2012, the reRun Theatre is devoting a week of its programming to the recent works of this group of emerging cinematic voices. The week is bookended by two vibrant shorts programs, with three features screening in between: Ian Clark‘s ‘Country Story‘, a drama about unmoored, small-town youth that has a remarkable, unmannered authenticity, which plays alongside his exquisite short ‘Searching for Yellow‘; Treva Wurmfeld’s fascinating documentary about the friendship between playwright and actor Sam Shepard and his former father-in-law Johnny Dark; and Sun Don’t Shine, a tense, semi-experimental noir produced by New Face Kim Sherman.
12/14 – Opening Night Shorts
Featuring: ‘Aquadettes‘, ‘The Slope‘, ‘Doubles with Slight Pepper‘, ‘Fig‘, ‘Life and Freaky Times of Uncle Luke‘, ‘Fishing without Nets‘, ‘Hey Jane‘

12/18 – ‘Country Story‘ & ‘Searching for Yellow‘
‘Country Story‘: Small-town slacker Jason still lives at home with his mom Shelly (played by newcomers Chris Lambert and Mandy Treanor). Content with idle days, Jason spends his time navigating joblessness, sipping on tall boys, and shooting the shit with his two pals, Tyson and Noah (Austin Will and Erik Jensen, Kosmos, Peter, and the upcoming, In Search of the Miraculous). Their casual pursuit of relaxation cause Jason to make a mistake that leads to hurt feelings and creates tension at home. Thus, he sets off with his pals deep into the backwoods, to visit an old friend (Dusty Decker) and try his hand at redemption — all the while maintaining a phlegmatic, possibly fleeting crush with longtime friend Lacy (Audrey Kovár, Summer Snapshot).
‘Searching for Yellow‘: A young landscape painter navigates a fleeting relationship.

12/19 – ‘Sun Don’t Shine‘
“Sun Don’t Shine” is a subtly cryptic story driven by the powerful performances of its lead actors and its eerily poetic setting. The film follows Crystal (Kate Lyn Sheil) and her boyfriend Leo (Kentucker Audley) on a tense and mysterious road trip through the desolate yet hauntingly beautiful landscape of central Florida. As the couple travels up the Gulf Coast the disturbing details of their excursion gradually begin to emerge, revealing Crystal’s sinister past and the couple’s troubling future.
